Pascha: Kristo Azuukidde! Kyamaziima Azuukidde!

This was the paschal proclamation at the front door. No procession
around the church, and no dark church. we just walked to the door and
the bishop read the gospel facing west, as you can see.

this is paschal matins. *very* sparsely attended; my friend simon, a
non-orthodox visitor, the guy in the suit at the far left of the
picture, said he noticed that mostly people just seemed to be sleepy
during the service.

To my great astonishment, matins ended with an announcement that we
would reassemble at 10:00 am for liturgy. Well, that explained the
sparse attendance at the midnight service! This is the pascha morning
service. Better attended, certainly, but it didn't feel packed.

Out in the parking lot after the service. Not the best photo i've ever taken, but i wanted to give you a glimpse of the "traditional" ethnic dress that Baganda women wear-- the dress with the butterfly sleeves and the big sash, called a 'gomesi'-- obviously post-Victorian, but i have no idea who Gomes or Gomez was.

The post-liturgy paschal meal. We got a little piece of emboozi (goat), an egg, a samosa, a slice of white bread, and, if you were one of the first of 100 or so in line, a shot of something, well... either european or american. Not much, of course, as you can see. But it was Pascha afternoon, and nice to celebrate with friends.

One woman who works here graduated from the university and arranged a
party for the later afternoon. It was a pretty nice party and there was
in this case plenty of food and dancing well into the night.

Some high school kids who wanted me to dance with them. One of these
days i'll post my impressions of dancing in uganda.
